The Easter Rising of 1916 was the launch event for the Irish War of Independence. Occurring during Holy Week in 1916, was centered mainly in Dublin, although some surrounding communities were also involved.
The goal of political freedom, the rebellion has been achieved and to create a Republic of Ireland. With the outbreak of World War I began, the British Government, the Home Rule Bill. Several groups, including the Irish Citizen Army, Irish Volunteers, the decision, and Sinn Fein, whichnecessary to take a position.
Under the direction of Padhraic Pearse, have begun their planning for the rebellion on Easter Sunday. They arranged to hold a series of marches throughout the city as a signal to other rebels. Their plans were discovered and the parades were canceled. They decided to hold off until the next day.
At noon on Easter Monday 24 April, was about 2,000 people from Pearse seized control of the Post Office in Dublin (established below), and many other strategicPoints of the city. The tricolor flag hoisted on the one hand, the post office and a green flag with the inscription "Republic of Ireland" on the other. Pearse, then read the Proclamation of the Republic. The next morning, they controlled a substantial part of Dublin. British reinforcements began to arrive Tuesday and was declared martial law. There have been several clashes in the streets.
On the morning of April 29 has come under heavy attack, and sent a Pearseunconditional surrender. The leaders of the revolt were put before a court martial and shot. The military casualties were 116 men killed, 368 wounded and 9 missing. What the police, 16 dead and 29 wounded. It is believed that the Irish were killed 64 rebels and 254 civilians and 2217 injured. A total of 3430 men and 79 women were arrested, although many later released.
The leaders of the revolt were buried in the courtyard of the old prison in Arbor Hill Prison. A monument was placedthere, and the ad was written on the wall in Irish and English.
The uprising was the first of a series of events in the founding of the Free State of Ireland culminated (after the Republic of Ireland). There are plans for the anniversary celebrations of the Easter Rising of 2016.
