Who Wants Public School Rankings?

เขียนโดย montana | 22:05

One of the most popular and controversial topics in education is the use of public school rankings. Generally speaking, parents love them and teachers hate them. Makes sense. Teachers are judged, criticized, and sometimes rewarded or punished on the basis of public school rankings. For those teachers already in challenging, inner-city environments, public schools rankings tend to offer little but added stress.

Parents, on the other hand, see public school rankings as a concrete way to judge and evaluate potential schools and current teachers. For parents moving to a new area, public school rankings are an anchor to reality; a way to make the difficult decision of where to live or not live. But the issue of public school rankings really goes deeper. I think it lies in the inherent mistrust between parents in low income areas and school systems in general.

Public School Rankings in the Inner-City

Let's face it, affluent families rarely have to worry about the schools their children attend. I know that even upper middle class families can't always afford private schools, but they tend to live in areas where the public schools excel. Affluent and educated parents help to create better schools, so they are less likely to be involved in schools affected by the dismal low public school rankings that the majority of inner city schools struggle with.

What's different in an inner city school? Of course, the majority of inner-city residents live there because they don't have the education and money to be able to choose to live somewhere else. Yes, there are exceptions, but I never met anyone who voluntarily lived in the projects when I taught at a project based inner-city school. What I did run into were a lot of parents who were uncomfortable, disdainful, and mistrusting of teachers and schools in general.

How to Raise Public School Rankings in Inner-City Schools

Some of the stereotypes of inner-city life are sadly based in reality. These kids are more likely to have parents who are in prison, use drugs, or are unable to be actively involved parents. If we really want to start raising public school rankings in the inner-city, we need to start with the parents. There are a lot of hard working, but poorly educated parents who truly want their children to succeed in school. Working two job, being financially strapped, and not having the academic background to help their children succeed are some of the most common struggles for this population of parents.

By offering parent education programs to these people in our inner-city, we can take the first important step to raising public school rankings where they are needed most. Classes on finances, reading to your child, or basic parenting classes can all have a real impact on public school rankings. Even if no one under 18 is in the room.

Death of the West: Frankfurt School, Cultural Marxism, Political Correctness 1of2

เขียนโดย montana | 17:49

A video by the Free Congress Foundation. It should be noted that the agenda for the breakdown of western institutions, such as Christian values and the family unit, were not an exclusive of the Frankfurt School, or the radical communists. Nothing would be further from the truth since we find that these movements to radically alter society would never have succeeded in the West had they not been given, to this day, a free pass and billions of dollars worth in funding by the...über-capitalists. Via their massive foundations and institutions. It's well worth to go into the investigations by the Reece Congressional Committee, in the 1950s, where the investigators were told to their faces by high-ranking members of Ford, Rockefeller and Carnegie Endowment, that indeed they were funding radical communism in the West and would continue to do so. The final objective, as was stated then, was to lead the masses into welcoming a socialist system, where they would be highly impoverished, and their lives would ultimately be totally managed by the state; as the state would itself be run by oligopolies and investment banks, society would be turned into a regimented slave plantation, where people would work orderly for their masters. Hence, communism at the bottom, fascism at the top. The findings of that committee were confirmed by many other investigations and events and, ultimately, they're all around us now, for everyone to see. You'd have to be blind, not to notice that nowadays ...

Michigan Law Schools - How to Find & Get Into a Great Law School in Michigan

เขียนโดย montana | 10:25

There are six great law schools in the State of Michigan. These include the Ave Maria School of Law in Ann Arbor, the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in Detroit, the University of Michigan Law School in Ann Arbor, the Michigan State University College of Law in East Lansing, the Thomas M. Cooley School of Law in Lansing, and Wayne State University Law School in Detroit.

Of course, not all Michigan law schools are alike, and in choosing a Michigan law school - as you would with any school - you should make sure that you are making the correct choice for YOU. Unfortunately, far to many prospective law students fall into the trap of letting magazines and artificial law school rankings make the choice for them. If you were to do that, you might focus on the University of Michigan Law School, which admittedly enjoys an outstanding national reputation, to the exclusion of several other excellent law schools in Michigan or elsewhere.

One of the things I try and emphasize to students trying to select a law school is that you get a very similar education no matter where you go. The "elite" schools will never admit that, but its true. Moreover, having been a practicing lawyer now for almost 10 years, I assure you that where you went to law school will very quickly become virtually meaningless to your employers and colleagues. I've known great lawyers and terrible lawyers who went to great schools - and I've known great lawyers and terrible lawyers who went to no-name night schools.

Therefore, if you've decided you want to go to law school in Michigan, you should carefully analyze which of the excellent choices will be the best law school for you. If your aim to get a high-paying job in Manhattan immediately after graduation, the University of Michigan Law School is probably a place you should target. On the other hand, if you're looking to set up a local practice on of the smaller local schools may be your best choice.

Although the substance of what you will learn is largely the same at every school, the environment is definitely not. That's why, if you've decided you want to go to a Michigan Law School, you should visit every school you're considering to get a feel for the campus and physical surroundings. You should also speak with some students to see what they have to say about the atmosphere. Some law schools are definitely more friendly that others.

No two Michigan law schools are created alike, just as no two law students are created alike. Finding a good match should be your top priority. You're going to spend three years of your life and tens of thousands of dollars - regardless of which Michigan law school you select - and you should do everything possible to make sure its not a miserable investment.

When I was choosing which law school to attend I spent hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars researching and in many cases visiting the eleven schools that made my final list. In the end, I didn't choose the highest ranked or most prestigious school I got into, but I did choose the best law school for me. And I made the right choice.

This is just one of the many topics I discuss in my ebook Covert Tactics for Getting Into the Law School of Your Choice and in the Covert Tactics Law School Newsletter, both of which are available at my website.

Vermont Law School Is An Advocacy Warrior

เขียนโดย montana | 08:21

In America today, two topics are guaranteed to arouse much spirited discussion and heated debate and these are the environment and the military. At the forefront of these issues is an institution who for the past 35 years of its existence has seldom taken the middle road. The Vermont Law School has taken the cudgels for two causes which are not only very much in the public eye, but may present America with some of its most difficult challenges yet.

Vermont Law School advocacies have never been easy as most advocacies usually are, but it is to the school's credit that it has stayed on this course and offered a professional platform on which others with similar inclinations can use. Vermont Law School has championed a specialized study of environmental law and pioneered it to such an extent that the Master of Studies in Environmental Law (MSEL) it offers has been universally praised for its fluid blending of law, policy, science and ethics and other relevant interdisciplinary studies.

It has re-defined the boundaries of environmental practice and management and includes in its programs, crucial centers of study focusing on environmental law, energy, environmental tax policies, effective land use, natural resources and a legal clinic specifically for these areas of concern.

The Vermont Law School credo of "Law for the Community and the World" typifies the necessary perspective that environmental advocates believe would give everyone a true understanding of how environmental management can be crucial to humanity's survival. Typical Vermont Law School programs, internships and academic immersions inevitably introduce students to the breathtaking vistas of the school's South Royalton campus.

The stunning views and languid afternoons spent rowing on the White River that passes by the school serve to emphasize all the more, the urgency and significance of the school's mission.

But the intensity of Vermont Law School causes in recent years has risen up a notch with the school's refusal to adhere to the Solomon Amendment which was passed by the U.S. Congress to allow on-campus military recruitment in all colleges and universities. Refusal to cooperate meant losing federal funding.

Not surprisingly, the Vermont Law School became the only American law school to give up millions of dollars in funding as well as pursuing a legal case challenging the Solomon Amendment which it described as discriminatory. The school became a member of the Forum for Academic and Institutional Rights (FAIR) which took the case against the amendment all the way to the Supreme Court.

In March of 2006, the court ruled unanimously for the government citing that because the government can require campuses to allow military recruitment, it can withhold funding if that requirement is not followed.

But rather than see this as a set-back, the school continues on with its trailblazing efforts to be not simply controversial, but relevant to the needs and requirements of the community and the country. It also continues to expand its environmental advocacies, creating global partnerships with similarly inclined institutions and groups.

For its efforts, it is but fitting that the Vermont Law School has been hailed by the U.S. News and World Report as being one of 2008's Best Graduate Schools in America and ranking first on the study of Environmental Law.

I'm Only an Average Student - How Can I Get Into Medical School?

เขียนโดย montana | 03:22

For many people, becoming a doctor is a lifelong dream; it is something they are very passionate about. It has been said that getting into medical school is one of the largest hurdles on the path to becoming a doctor. It is certainly no easy feat to get into medical school. If you are still in high school, you don't need to worry too much about your grades, as long as they will get you into college. If you are already in college, you need to be working hard to get and maintain a B+ average.

While in high school, you should start planning which college you will attend and what you will major in. Contrary to common belief, you do not need to have taken pre-med to get into med school. While your grades won't matter to the med school, the college you choose to attend may come into play. Most med schools will accept work done at a community college, but the classes must transfer over to the university you choose. It is best if you can get into a university from the beginning.

Once you are in college, you will want to major in something that truly interests you. It is better to major in Business and get good grades than to major in science and do poorly. No matter what your major, to get into medical school you will need to take Biology, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, English, and most likely Physics and Calculus. You will also need to take the MCAT (Medical College Admission Test), usually in your junior year.

Medical schools will look at your overall GPA, your science GPA, the score on the MCAT, extracurricular activities, and your application essays. To get into med school, they like to see at least a 3.6 GPA. If you have a high science GPA, but your overall GPA is a bit lower than what they are looking for, you may still get in if your MCAT is over 30. If you find your GPA is a bit low, take extra courses, or even go ahead and get your Master's degree.

Medical school is very competitive, there are not nearly as many spots as there are applicants. If it is truly your heart's desire to become a doctor, you can always consider studying abroad. The important thing is to not give up. You may have to take a longer route to get your dream, but with hard work and perseverance you can accomplish almost anything!

Graduate School Rankings

เขียนโดย montana | 22:37

According to the U.S. Census Bureau statistics, people with a bachelor's degree earn on an average over 62 percent more than those with only a high school diploma. Over a lifetime, the gap in earning potential between a high school diploma and a graduate (or higher) is more than $1,000,000.

Such figures act as a motivation for several students to pursue higher studies. Depending upon the course that they want to study, students decide upon certain schools to apply to. Different schools have become famous for different disciplines.

Each top graduate school in the U.S. is renowned for certain specialties. This reputation makes students seek out universities as per specialties. In the field of education, Harvard University (MA), the University Of California and Stanford University (CA) are the leaders. The main players in the medical field are Harvard University (MA), John Hopkins University (MD) and Washington University in St. Louis. The field of engineering studies is dominated by Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University (CA) and University of California-Berkeley. These universities attract brilliant students from over the world. Harvard University (MA), Stanford University (CA), University of Pennsylvania (Wharton) and Massachusetts Institute are the trendsetters in Business studies. The highest-ranked law schools in the country are Yale University (CT), Harvard University (MA) and Stanford University (CA).

Every year there is a list published containing the names of the best graduate schools. There is a lot of hype attached to the ranking but it should be merely used as a guideline. Many colleges do not make it to the list but are well reputed and provide students with a good quality education. Generally, the national universities are rated as the best colleges. They provide academic excellence, have a good faculty, superb infrastructure and offer a wide range of subjects.

The selection of an appropriate school should be made taking individual criteria into account. An objective assessment should compare one's interests and abilities with the school's infrastructure and excellence of the teaching faculty in the relevant course. If satisfied on these counts the school will fulfill all expectations. This kind of a decision can be reached taking ranking of the school as a good guideline.

The Transition From High School to College

เขียนโดย montana | 13:30

The transition from high school to college reflects a major lifestyle change as well as a symbolic passage into the responsibilities of adulthood. No longer is your educational direction dictated by others or mandated by law. No longer will your teacher kindly remind you that you neglected to turn in homework assignment #4. The transition to college from high school brings with it numerous opportunities disguised as challenges, and persevering when faced with these challenges will open the door to the abundance of opportunities afforded by a college education.

You have probably followed essentially the same routine from kindergarten through graduating high school - arriving early in the morning, attending class throughout the day and being dismissed in the afternoon. College classes, on the contrary, are often two to three days per week, for varying lengths of time, beginning at practically any time of the day. With the guidance of an advisor, you will be responsible for dictating which classes you take and when, and managing your schedule throughout your college career. While at first glance your college schedule may appear less grueling than in high school, be aware that college demands much more time out of class which you must manage effectively and consistently in order to succeed.

College will also vary greatly from high school in the classroom as well. While high schools typically adhere to uniform attendance policies, you will find that each college professor may have a different policy regarding attendance. Good class attendance in college is important because you have to comply with policies, but its advantages are far greater. Attending each class meeting will help you stay abreast of important dates and test material that are critical to academic success. While high school made it easy to make up a missed test after an absence, the same is not true in college. College professors expect you to take deadlines seriously and respect the guidelines set forth by the course. Additionally, you are responsible for taking detailed notes as the professor lectures and keeping up with required reading and assignments outside of class. Test material is often taken from a combination of textbook material, lecture material and skills acquired through projects and assignments.

Often, high school grades are calculated based on a combination of tests, projects, homework and other assignments. A high school student performing poorly on tests may manage to pass a class by completing all other assignments. Although you may receive credit for assignments in college, tests usually account for a majority of the weight of your grade. Professors expect you to fully grasp the concepts taught by the course, and demonstrate your understanding through performance on tests. Some class grades are calculated strictly from tests, and some even rely solely on a midterm and a final. If you have historically scraped by with lackadaisical study habits, now is the time to change them. College tests usually cover a lot of material, and procrastinating until the night before to study will only set you up for a rude awakening.

Succeeding in college takes dedication, organization and perseverance. You must maintain focus on short term goals such as preparing for next week's test, while steadily working toward longer term goals such as fulfilling the requirements of your degree and building a career in your field. College requires you to set your own goals and then do what it takes to achieve them.

6 Easy ways to get parents more involved in school

เขียนโดย montana | 19:52

Great success of a student of the school depends on parents to be supported at home. The first parent in the upbringing of their children are involved, the better. One study shows that the three most important factors include the cooperation with parents, the perception of whether their child's school or myself that are involved, as it considers how they can positively influence the education of their children, and what is comfortable with her child and notin relation to the school. Also, if the parents model behavior that shows education is important, it will be a positive influence on them. Children need to feel that school is an important part of their family life. Are you a teacher - but where to start?

1. It 'simple: ask parents to participate! Sometimes it's not a matter of parents who do not want to be there - not a question of them know how to start. When you get to meet a list of tasks for yourClass, do not assume you have to do it myself. There are parents who want to help only if asked.

2. Identify the talents, strengths and interests of parents. These skills could be very useful in the classroom. Please send a list of house, what opportunities your school for the parents and ask them what they are interested in contributing. Jobs could also covers the coordination of fundraising events, managing volunteers, working as an assistant, a profession or Community Advocate for their school.

3. If a parent is resistant to more and more involved, have this: research has repeatedly shown that students whose parents are regularly involved in training their children there is a better school, better quality and have high levels of motivation and of self-identification Know - Attention, children whose parents are not involved. In addition, parents may be less with their child abandonment Deal> School, always exposed to be with drugs and alcohol, or violence. The convincing evidence!

4. Become a partner with parents, and feel part of the team. Some parents think it's a job as a teacher to teach and do not know how you can help the parents. Parents provide guidance what they can do to support the education of their children at home. This could include proposals for the creation of an effective learning environment for their child or how they can help their childrenStudy. Parents encouraged to take field trip or watching educational programs, with their child, which will reinforce the lessons at home with our efforts.

5. While many parents with the school to participate if their children in kindergarten in the first place, parental involvement drops dramatically with each grade level. Find ways for the parents involved in their child goes to school. If possible, a room of the school, which serves as the designated parent roomencourage continued participation in the school.

6. Not anticipate that you think, or do not want to be involved. Even if a child can come from a single parent or low income at home, does not mean that parents are concerned not only about educating our children than to others. Giving parents an equal opportunity to participate in the education of their children, as half or two-parent families.

Public School Rankings do not tell the whole story

เขียนโดย montana | 17:48

If the public school rankings are published, you must look in secret at a glance, where it is listed (or your kids) to school? We know that everyone is curious that "our" good school or not. Some people even thought to consult the lists of public school before buying a house in a specific environment.

This is normal and natural for the parents want the best for their children a quality education and provides young people an excellent basis for success. OfLive Standings public school as a base for the neighborhood seems a bit 'reductive, for me, though.

Can not measure intangibles Public School Rankings

Each of us is a teacher who inspired us to remember to strive to give our best. If indeed we are lucky we can do more than a teacher who has a great influence on us. Standings school if only on the basis of the name of the results of standardized tests are not measured by these types of factors. These areassets, which determine whether students can be successful in life, not the test results alone.

Ranking If the public schools to measure students motivated and thinking creatively to find solutions to problems? Do they show the unity of students and the determination to be a difficult subject, or a section in the course of a teacher was? No, not possible. Do not show public school rankings for schools also a learning environment that welcomes all students and is working to teachTolerance and understanding of differences.

Consider public school rankings, but keep them in perspective

By all means, do not think if the neighborhood is to look good schools. Instead of taking only the public school rankings for your city or state, first some 'time to find exactly what a good school for you and your family. The answer to this question varies depending on the interests and needs of Students.

If it is very important for your family that the school has a good sports program, then the ranking of public schools, not help you. It does not mean that schools are teachers who give us the enthusiasm the art of teaching students to do their best to have mastered both inside and outside the classroom. Sometimes a student struggling on the right track you need is a person who believes in them. Where did we come to appear in public> Results of school? Not so.

Go ahead and check the rankings of public school, if you want. (I know you are anyway.) Just remember that they do not say all you need to know to know a particular school. In order to fully evaluate an institution of learning, it is necessary to gather more information and rankings are only part of the puzzle.

School rankings are helpful or harmful?

เขียนโดย montana | 08:04

A recent news story revealed that Standard & Poor's took a corner in their top school when Montpelier High School, referred to as the fifth best high school in the United States. The school is located right in the top 500, which is still a good result, but certainly not comparable. When we think about school rankings, is that what is really measured?

Make Comprehensive School Rankings

For the posts of the school to remain credible,Parents, students and the public need to understand what it is based. Otherwise, the name that is associated with a certain school, or dead last number one means nothing.

The numbers themselves can be considered as data. The data are a group of numbers. That's all it is. There is a difference between data and information. The data that turned collected, analyzed and the information that we can use. If we can understand exactly what institutions are at the top of the heapWhat schools to earn the ranking of the top positions, and administrators from other schools can learn from it and apply those strategies to improve the quality of education for its students.

School rankings will help the student responsible for the growth of the industry?

In recent years a number of companies, the tests are available and will be tutoring for students who have appeared on our collective radar. Your advertising is to convey the message that if onlyparents have been involved with this company that the students are in school performance (and, implicitly, greatly improved in life).

I would think that if a student struggling with a specific theme that would get some benefit from extra help. The current system of ranking school brings a problem of modern parents who simply do not have the previous generations. In the past, the parents sent their children was the nearest school and the end.You can use the fact that the world outside the school, held a contest. Well, it's always been a competitive position in the big world. What has not changed.

What has changed (and I think that classifies the school play a role in that), that parents are afraid for their children are afraid that if you run the floor in the pre-hit for doing so are not able to do well in school and in life. That is not true.

Why do not we justStop focusing so much on ranking schools as the way we judge that the school is the best? There will always be people who will focus on these lists, but at the end of the day, what the school rankings, really? If a child gets top marks in a school that is not among the top 100 in the ranking of the school, take off all that student performance? No, it does not.

School rankings are only part of the overall framework of education. Let'snever forget this fact.
